This is a Lenovo laptop and maybe an 'ideapad', it costs $350. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I do not do any serious work on my laptop. Just some school work, on powerpoint or Microsoft word and internet browsing. I deleted all my files and it's showing low space, like 143MB of 27.8GB left, Why? I'm confused?

sounds as if better cooling would be helpful. look into one of those under the laptop auxiliary coolers -- you want it to increase airflow.

and ask the maker via their support pages if the temps you are seeing are normal for that model ... might be there's something not completely right with it and sending it in for service/RMA would be appropriate.

If I plug them in, they'll usually work at first, but if I move the laptop or the cord at all they'll stop registering in the computer. I'll have to twist or wiggle the plug until it works again. This is really annoying to deal with all the time. Could someone tell me what's wrong and what I could do to fix it?

  • Do brand new computers not come with Microsoft Word or an equivalent program preinstalled?

Best answer: Pretty much all new Windows computers come with a free 30-day trial of Microsoft Office. Once the trial is up, Microsoft wants you to pay for Office 365 (either monthly or yearly). Or you can outright buy the Office suite for a one-time payment. If you don't want to pay, you can use open-source alternatives... show more

  • Chance of recovering a file I deleted over a year ago?

Any chance I would be able to recover some files I deleted a year+ ago. Files were relatively small word docs. Since deleting them, I only really used the laptop for surfing the internet and YouTube, however I have wiped the laptop. Surely, it couldn’t have overwritten the deleted files by now?

Best answer: At room temperature, with power shut fully down and off, there are parts like the battery and some capacitors that get some wear just sitting, but overall, it is minimal. To improve it, you would buy a desiccant bag and seal it in a plastic bag, but without a desiccant, any cover bag should probably remain open to air to assure no condensation in it. The issue you really have is that normally, newest technology is higher performance and the value of the laptop goes down in time as it sits. If you state the model number of each in full detail, it may be better to transfer data and sell the old one. But, if only asking about shelf life, it can sit two to three years and should not see a noticeable affect compared to new.

  • What is a Satellite Computer?

Best answer: LOL since when does a MODEL name have anything at all to do with the computer! It is just a name. They also have portege and Tecra models but those also are series names not how the machine is used. The "Satellite" units are the lower end of the Toshiba line.
