  • Can I make multiple mirror images on a single hard drive?

I'd like to be able to restore a computer, should the hard drive fail (has happened to me 3 times in 18 years). I think I could do this via a mirror of the current hard drive; and I could keep that on an external hard drive (my "vault") until needed. I have multiple computers, so I'd like to have multiple mirrors. Could these be maintained on the same "vault"? I suspect they could, within different partitions. But could they also be maintained in separate folders, or does it need to be separate partitions? And... is there another way to do same thing besides a mirror? I've never used a restore disk (because I've never done a good job of planning ahead). Would this work as well? And if so, could I store multiple "restore disks" on an external hard drive, same questions about the partitioning. thanks for your help and regards

Best answer: The problem you describe is generally called "cable-borne noise" or "mechanical cable noise", and is due to the lack of an isolation loop.

Disconnect the 3.5mm plug.  If the cable is routed through the beams of the stand, extricate the cable from the assembly.

Use electrical tape to affix the cable to one side (not the bottom) of the lower beam, 2 or 3 cm (about an inch) from the bolt.  Be sure to leave enough slack to allow changing the microphone angle, without the cable and pop filter gooseneck touching.

Make a 4 inch minimum diameter loop, and affix the other end to the other side of the beam and about 5cm (a couple of inches) farther back.  No parts of the loop should touch.

If you like, you may route the remaining cable through the descending beam.

When I make isolation loops, I often wrap a bit of plastic foam (not bubble wrap), about 3mm (1/8 inch) thick, around the cable areas taped to the mechanism.  Foam with adhesive on one side to adhere to the cable is best.

  • External hard drive broken?

The port on my external hard drive is broken, and I can no longer plug the cord that connects to my computer into it. Clearly I need to buy a new one, but is there a way I can extract the data that is currently on it? I don t want to lose the projects I have saved there. Thanks!!

Advanced RMA means that they send me a new drive first then I send the old one back. Well on the instructions it says if they don't receive the old drive all I will be charged is $33 after 30 days. I'm wondering if I advanced RMA the drive and get the new drive and don't send the one I have back will I only be charged $33? I think if this works I just found a huge buy one get one loophole! To all the tech wiz's and geeks out there, this one's for you! I have a Toshiba external hard drive 3GB. I also have a MacBook Pro and I also have a Samsung Galaxy S7. When I purchased my Galaxy I got the little USB port with it that allows you to connect two androids together to transfer files. I wondered if I could connect my android directly to my external hard drive to transfer media quickly without having to connect both devices to my Mac as the poor thing is getting old now. My phone picked up my hard drive and promoted me to configure my hard drive to my phone which I did. I transferred one album from my phone onto my hard drive to see if it would show up on the hard drive when I plugged it into my Mac. Once plugged in the Mac then said that it couldn't read the device. Please tell me that I haven't messed up and wiped everything from my hard drive and that it's only been configured to be read by Windows now. I can easily get a PC to see if it mounts. How do I get it to be read back on my Mac again? I have lot of data on there that will take ages to move. I know that I can partition my hard drive but I don't want to do it with media on there incase it wipes it all. Help! What's the solution!?! Also you'll see the pic of my hard drive and android USB port I was on about. Thanks peeps! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! Lou
