• Should I let my daughter redo her room?

Best answer: It depends on what you mean by redo it. If you are just deciding to change the color and put a fresh coat of paint on the walls, I don't see a problem with that. It's relatively inexpensive and mainly costs time, which at that age she should be capable of handling a brush or roller and helping out.

However, if we are talking about replacing all the bedding, the furniture, and possibly getting new art for the walls, that's something that can cost a pretty penny and it's not something I'd want my kids deciding they want to do every 2-3 years.

I can almost read between the lines of your question when you say this is the last time she will do this... We know that statement is not true. Because the needs of a 12-13 year old will certainly change once they reach age 16-17. Her teen idols will change. She may become more interested in causes. She may have a new BF or BFF that does not like the room she chose as a pre-teen. Or she may just want something that's more adult than what she picked.

Figure out what the costs would be to redo the room. Better yet, have her do the math. Explain what materials will be needed so she can see how expensive the changes she wants will be. And make that cost hit home. Parents are not always made of money and it's important that be demonstrated by making any changes also affect her, such as costing her in chores or allowance.

  • Mattress too big for bed?

So I recently got a new mattress and bed - both of which I love - but the mattress is a few inches wider than the frame. It fit when I shoved it in, but it now creaks when I move. What can I do about this?

Okay I'm a guy, I don't really care about looks. But the way my wife decorated our house, I'm embarrassed to open the door for the delivery man! It is HIDEOUS!! She doesn't even know what she likes, she just buys random things online that she thinks will make our house better, and puts them all in the same room, regardless if they go or not. I sound dramatic, but she spends so much money on our house, yet it looks terrible. I've told her before, "Are you sure you want to keep that?" "I think a carpet without brown on it would look better" etc. She takes it to heart when I tell her. I don't mean to hurt her feelings, but I can't stand my own home. I want us BOTH to feel comfortable. How do I politely tell her that there needs to be a change, without hurting her feelings? I've tried shopping myself, because my style honestly is pretty decent. But if I tell her, "I'll shop for a new carpet online for our dining room, and I'll run it by you."......3 days later, theres a new hideous carpet in our dining room that she bought.

Often there's a large-link chain involved, partly to hide the cord and partly to support the weight of the light itself.

Here's some links to show you what's available:

On the 2nd floor it was easy to find the studs in the ceiling because we just went up to the attic and could tell where they lied 16 inches apart. But on the main floor/living room, where we plan on doing the next project, I am having a difficult time trying to find the studs in the ceiling. Anyone have any tips? Thanks
