Hello. I currently work as a payroll manager with in a transport company for the last 3 years. A few months ago my boss said he wants to hire a payroll officer as backup. He did not want to tell me who it is, and it turned out to be a lady that has worked for the company for 13 years. She and my boss is basically demanding me to train her everything I know, absolutely everything including end of month and end of financial year. They tell me that I have to show them every situation and it seems a bit awkward. Especially when my boss once said that I will step back for 4 months and let her run payroll to practice. They said in the case I go on leave I have to train her everything. I can understand if I have to go on leave which I rarely do, but now they are pushing me to go on leave and won't leave me alone till I have trained her on everything. Does this sound reasonable or is there something more sinister? The lady is writing thorough procedures on everything I know because she wants to learn to do everything by herself. Thanks

In most companies I've been in: yes, it's like that most of the time. People in the business unit think nothing of taking out their frustrations on Tech Support. They turn nasty. (Sales and marketing people are the worst.)

Take a vacation. You sound like you need one.

If you want to stay in Desktop Support: find a job in a company / department where the personality types are more like your own: an engineering or technical company, or a back-office administration department in a large company.

  • What do you think I should do about this? Sometimes when I'm trying to finish my work before a deadline my boss will ask me to do something?

in a very ambiguous way. I think I know what he means but I'm not sure. And if I do the WRONG THING my boss will BLAME me for the mistake. I don't think my boss is evil. I think he acts this way because he is under stress.

Or do I automatically get placed as an "Open Contract"? If I do get placed as an open contract if I fail my background check, would it be wiser to instead sign up for another MOS without the risk of open contract and laterally move into the intelligence field later on?

Certificate wont be nearly as important as what you can actually do. If you have created impressive websites not using templates (meaning just with code), you might have a shot. Otherwise, do this on the side of being an accountant.
