I would ask him but he's awful at replying. Also one of my close friends, hers is just completely blank too. It's almost as if my facebook has a bug?

Best answer: A book filled with people's faces.

Facebook started as a web app for college students to connect with one another. At first, it was only available to students. You had to have a .edu email address to even open an account. In the very early stages, you had to have an Ivy League email address, an email address from Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Cornell, Penn, Colombia, or Dartmouth. What the idea was based off of was these books that used to circulate the Ivy League schools that had the names, pictures, basic information, and phone numbers of students throughout the Ivy League. Students used those to meet others, mostly for dating. Students used to browse through those books of faces and when they saw a face they liked, someone they were attracted to, they'd call that person and chat them up. That's how Facebook started, as an online version of that, hence the name.
