"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." ~Jesus~ Matthew 16:24 "We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, 'I know him,' but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him." 1 John 2:3-4

and a bonus question now that i think about it....
where did the idea come from that Hell and "the lake of fire" was the same thing?11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years ago
i constantly see people saying stuff like "The books in the Old Testament were superseded by the words of Jesus in the New Testament." and "Once Jesus was born the old covenant which was the Mosaic Law was no longer needed because of Jesus."
Yet Jesus said "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished." doesn't that mean the law still matters?7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years ago

please read everything as i will try to explain it.
the question is:
is scientism the religion for atheists?
now i want everyone to know that i am not asking "is science the religion for atheists" but SCIENTISM.
now for those who don't know what scientism is, it is the belief that science is the ONLY way to know if something is true.
this question was inspired by the video found here:
(it is a 20min video but i recommend everyone to watch it.)
i keep hearing you guys say that atheism is simply not believing in God, and it isn't believing there is no God... so my question to you guys is what do you call someone who believes there is no God if you don't call them atheists?15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago
even if health care is a 'right' why is it the only right that you should be forced to take part in?
i have heard a lot of supporters of the health care bill support it because health care is a 'right' and some people just don't have access to it. but what about those people who choose not to have it? for instance i am 20yo and i have a choice to have the company i work for give me health insurance, but i choose to take the extra money instead. now that bill states that if you do not have health insurance then you face huge fines and time in prison.
why is health care so special that it needs to be forced on those who don't want/need it? why aren't people forced to practice any of the rights specifically laid out in the Constitution?14 AnswersPolitics1 decade ago

1. what does it mean to be a Christian?
2. how do you become a Christian?
3. why should you be a Christian?8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago
as it seems a lot of the answers here given by people who call themselves a "liberal Christian" would fit those who follow the "new age" belief system better than someone who claims to be a Christian.
for instance earlier someone said "I think that the portrayal of God in the Bible is the literary device of personification."21 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago
seriously its bugging me, why waist your time just picking on those who have different beliefs than you?
