The company that I work for expects men to wear their hair differently than women do. In other words, my managers told me that they can apply the dress code to men but not women. For example, my boss tells the men to cut their hair when it is at a certain length, and to shave, even the little stubble that is barely noticeable. I brought up the fact that the handbook says "no fad cuts or styles". Fad: "an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived and without basis in the object's qualities; a craze". I told them that this is the definition of a fad, and they agreed with it, as if I needed agreement. I asked them why they can hold the men accountable but not the women. After telling them, "do you think someone higher than you would agree with that?" Then they told me, "We called corporate and they said we could." I then continued, "I wasn't referring to corporate when I said someone higher than you..." They said, "who were you referring to?" They didn't need to ask, they already know. They just wanted to hear what I had to say. It makes me angry when they discriminate on gender in retail.
