  • Is it out of line to complain about a coworker your department doesn't get along with?

So here's the deal. I work at a department store, and my department has 4 employees. All 4 of us got along perfectly, there were never any problems with getting the work done or with scheduling. For the Christmas season, additional temps were hired to help out. One particular temp really wants to be hired on as permanent, but none of us in the department like him. He is arrogant, and the only time he works is if a manager is looking, it's like he only does stuff to suck up to management, instead of to keep the department running appropriately. However, the main problem is that he is somehow talking his way into getting additional hours, which is causing hours to be taken from the rest of us. I just don't see a reason to keep him when the department worked fine before, and when you already have employees who want more hours. I'm just wondering if I have cause to go complain to the store manager about him or if I would come off as petty. Should I say anything or should I just deal with it?

  • What are the 'laws' regarding breaks for amount of hours worked?

I'm only asking because I work in retail and on Black Friday they have everyone working 12 hour shifts and are only letting us take one 30 minute break the entire shift. For instance, I'm scheduled from 7am to 7pm, and will only get a 30 minute break all day.

Normally, if you work 6 to 7 hours you get a 30 minute break, and if you work more than 7 hours you get an hour break.

Just wondering about if there are any break requirements or whatever.

  • Am I overreacting about this?

This will probably sound really dumb to people, but I have to ask. So, one of my best friends and I had made plans with each other for Friday, the plans had been made well in advance, I'd asked off work and everything. Then, Tuesday I call my work to get my schedule, I had to work Friday. My friend was mad that I had been scheduled, so I said that I would just call in and not work that day so our plans could continue as usual. Everybody was happy again, until Friday. Friday, we both went to the gym early in the am, I called him shortly after I got back home but he didn't answer, he bailed on our plans he'd acted like were so important. Then, Friday night at 10:30 I get a text saying 'sorry about today'. No reason or anything. Needless to say I was a little agitated since I had called in to work, making my boss mad in the process, because my friend had made such a big deal about hanging out. Then, yesterday he texts me, never brings up Friday, and I acted pretty much like an *** to him. So, am I overreacting to this whole thing, do I have a right to be mad, and should I feel bad for reacting the way I did?

  • Moving from kitchen staff to doorman?

Right now while I'm in college I work at a country club in the kitchen, I'm basically the lowest person on the totem pole there, I clean and do prep work and they pay me $8 per hour. A position just opened up for doormen and I was wondering if it would be a good move to try and switch over to that. Do you think they get paid more?

  • Why can't I seem to start a relationship?

First off, this isn't one of those "I'm afraid to talk to girls" scenarios...I have no problem meeting girls, talking to girls, flirting, etc...but I rarely am able to bring myself to initiate an actual legit relationship with anyone. I can flirt with girls, they'll flirt back with me; I can ask them to go out and they will, but when it comes to making it an 'official' relationship and moving past the 'friend' zone, even if the girl wants to, it just seems like I can't bring myself to do it. In some cases, I know she likes me, but it's like I'm afraid that if I ask them out on an actual date that they'll reject me...and then it's not just the matter of rejection that messes me up, I always think that the girl will start telling people about it and making fun or whatever (lame I know) I end up just messing around, they move on, and I'm left to start a fling with some other girl. It's like I've always been unable to share my true feelings with people because I'm afraid of what they'll think of me. I value the friendship I'll have with someone, but even if both of us want something more, I just won't take the leap because I'm afraid of the uncertainty I guess. So, what can I do to overcome this problem? It's not that I can't interact with girls or that girls aren't attracted to me, I really think that I just over-analyze things too much when I should really just roll with things more...none of this probably makes any sense, but if you can, help me...

  • Graphing on Excel 2007?

I have 2 columns of data, I need one of the columns to graph on the x axis, and the other to graph on the y axis. But, every time I graph it, it graphs them both on the same axis.

    I need these to graph on x: (600, 960, 1060, etc) and these to graph on y: (20, 40, 80, etc).

How do I get one column of numbers on 1 axis and the other on the other axis?

  • Do these clothes match?

I forgot that I had to dress up for school today so I'm rushing to get ready at the last minute...

I'm going to wear light brown khaki pants with a white and thin blue striped short-sleeve button down shirt and an orange and blue tie.

Will all this match and look good together? I'm mainly worried about the shirt and tie.

  • How do I stop the itching from my jellyfish sting ?

About 4-5 days ago, I got stung by a jellyfish on my arm and side when I was at the beach. It doesn't sting/hurt/burn anymore like it did the day I got stung, BUT since yesterday it's been itching like CRAZY! Plus, the area where I was stung (you can see where the tentacles touched me) are a little raised/swollen and red. What should I put on it to help with the itching? I already put vinegar on it just after I was stung. The itching is driving me nuts.

  • What's with these bumps all over my lips?

So, a couple of days ago, I noticed these 2 patches of small light pink bumps (about the size of a pin head) on both sides of my upper lip. You couldn't even notice them unless I actually poked my lip out. That stayed around for a few days, then today (over a period of about 3 hours) I went from these 2 small patches to having my entire upper lip covered with larger (~1mm) more pronounced bumps and even having some on my bottom lip. I've never had cold sores, I just don't know what's up. I've got a doctor's appointment day after tomorrow, but if anyone has any advice, please let me know, I've got a job interview that same day and I don't want to be looking like I've got some sort of disease while I'm at it...

  • Is it weird that the icons on my desktop move around?

Every once in a while, I notice that when I open a program (like firefox) from my taskbar (I have windows 7), that a couple of the icons on the desktop will kind of shake around a bit. They don't move around a lot or change their location on the grid, they just shake/vibrate for a second or two. Any idea as to what's behind this strange anomaly?

  • Why won't my downloads finish?

So I've been trying to download a file from the Microsoft website, the file is ~500MB. For some reason, my computer won't finish the download, it will pause randomly (at 12%, 50%, 75%, etc.) and then will say that the server reset and the download couldn't finish. I have no problem downloading smaller files (~75MB), and my internet isn't slow (the 500MB download should take around 10 mins.)

First I thought the problem was with Firefox so I tried using Internet Explorer, it still didn't work. I unhooked the router and plugged directly into the modem, still no luck.

I've also noticed lately that videos on YouTube won't load completely either, they'll just stop randomly. Any ideas? I've got cable internet and am using Windows 7 if that matters.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • How do I get rid of belly fat?

First off, I'm not really fat, I'm 6ft. tall and weigh 160 lbs. But, I have belly fat and love handles that I want to try to get rid of this summer. I already go to the gym a few times a week, I weight train and usually run 1 mile every time I go. I don't care about getting ripped abs, I only want a flat stomach (though some definition would be nice too). I also want a little definition to my chest (it's a little flabby too). So, what sort of exercises and diet should I be using? I'm going to try to cut back on the junk food (I eat a lot of candy and fast food). Should I do more cardio/running to loose the fat? Any sort of advice or personal experience stories are appreciated!

  • Are cities required to provide public housing housing to it's citizens?

I live in a city that has recently torn down several housing projects, and is currently pouring millions into revitalization of some neighborhoods that contain projects. Many have argued that the revitalization will have no effect when there are high-crime housing projects in the neighborhood. So I was wondering if the city has a legal responsibility or requirement of providing public housing to it's citizens.

I just installed the new Microsoft Security Essentials program and was wondering if there was a way to test if it was is there a 'fake' virus that you could download that the anti-virus software would think was a virus and tell you, but it wouldn't harm anything?
