My car broke down a week ago, and we think its the transmission but we aren't sure. I mean it still functions as if nothing was wrong with it. The day after it broke down my dad was able to drive it up the hill and we have a pretty steep hill. A couple of days later my dad was able to drive it around our neighborhood, drove perfectly fine. The day it broke down, it wouldn't do anything. I mean you could it put in drive, all it would do just rev and max out the rpms, when we would put it in reverse the same thing would happen. My parents already replaced the transmission around 40,000 miles ago and had the throttle body replaced 35,000 miles ago. I think it might be a transmission solenoid, transmission belt, or the shift linkage. I just don't think it could be the actual transmission itself.
