Serious archeologists often search or research biblical artifacts. Many events in biblical history have been proven true through archeology.

Noah's ark would be a hard one to search for. This is mainly because there is nowhere you can really start.... unlike many other stories in the bible, we have no idea when Noah's ark truly occured and where. And if you found an ark, how would you know it was Noahs????

I should think it would be a valid enough field of study. We're told where to look for the Ark, after all. It would be little different from looking for Troy, and Heinrich Schliemann pulled that off.
