water contains bacteria , dirt , pools contain chlorine , oceans contain salts all those dry out the protective film around your eyeball opening your eyes in such envoriments can couse irritation dryness and can lead to infections after swiming eye drops should be used to restore moisture

    Chlorine is in pool water as a cleaner and if you are talking about a bath tub and you are using city water they use chloramines to clean their water as well which in large amounts dries out your skin. Your eyes being prodminently water if they are exposed to the caustic chemical it will cause excessive burning and dryness in your eyes.

    No, just irritating. I wouldn't do it in the ocean without protection though, not even short term. Pool ok
