I'm in a similar situation, except that my mom's around ten years older than yours and she's around 5 months along in her new pregnancy! At first, both my father and I were surprised and worried about her, but since she's relatively healthy for her age, the pregnancy has been going surprisingly smoothly! My mother sometimes jokes that the new baby in her belly is much more behaved than I was..

If you want to get technical it already is a successful "pregnancy." She is indeed pregnant, right?
That aside, risks do go up as the mother ages, both for her and for the baby. It just depends.

Hi i am currently 22 weeks pregnant and i am 38 years old. As you get older you have a higher risk of birth defects due to age. I was told because of my age and blood work i have a one in seven chance of my baby having downsyndrome. Turn that around i have a 6 in seven chance he doesn't. Well i can tell you from my own personal experience i do feel better this time around with my pregnancy than i did with my first. I was 26 with my first.
I think as long as your mother looks after herself and goes to all the appointments then she is giving herself and her baby the best chance possible. Goodluck.
