Are shaft driven bicycles reliable?

I'm doing some researching on this but I cant seem to find the answer. All I get is how amazing the technology is...

Are shaft driven bicycles reliable? Comparing to chain driven, how smooth are they? Do they opeeate quietly? Are thy easy to maintain? How long will they last? What are all of the pros and cons?

Thank you.

Yes, very reliable and smooth, plus seem to be long lasting without the constant chain work, even the belt drive is smoother than chain.
One item worth notice though, is there is some torque pull on acceleration with a shaft drive that takes some getting used to.

There are shaft driven motorcycles, too. Japanese sport motorcycles don't have them because they rob power and acceleration. What's that tell you?
