Of course it is. Eratosthenes discovered that AND the circumference of the Earth using nothing but a stick.

Yeah, especially how the Greeks figured it out at least 2500 years ago, thats amazing. They were pretty accurate with the size as well.

This is not a religious topic my good man. People knew the Earth was a sphere long before any religious group did and some of them were executed for it.

It's a pretty significant one. I'm not sure how "great" it is - but it led to the idea that one could travel toward the West in order to reach the East, and because of *that* the Americas were discovered.
