Why do other countries expect Americans to know all their cultures, histories, and geographies?
They need to get over themselves.

I mean, nobody asks the average Mexican citizen if he knows what the capital of Hungary is. You only want Americans to recognize your little piece of lands because we're the center of the world. You can't expect a king to know all his subjects' names.

Everyone, both people and countries secretly believe they are the center of the universe. It's just a part of human nature You do it, I do it, we ALL do it. (But I REALLY AM the center of the universe, you just think you are)
I do believe Jan Viljoen has proven my point!

because they "know" about america... and feel that americans should know them.
the more a country sees america as a "peer" the more insulted they are that americans would be unaware of them.
these are often the people who wouldnt know where turkmenistan is..unless they happened to be around it...but thats to be forgiven if americans dont know it either, after all its THEIR country you should really know about.

I think you're exaggerating.
Americans are some of the most ignorant people in the world, and it shows in the kind of yahoos who get elected to Congress.
Most people in other industrialized nations DO get some basic world history at the high school level.
Most Americans can't even name all fifty states, all the presidents, or the amendments to the Constitution.
Americans are not only ignorant about their own history and politics, they're almost completely ignorant about the rest of the world. And, granted, some countries change names, but -- THOSE WHO DO NOT LEARN FROM HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT.
And we're happily engaged in proving that right now. The grandchildren of people who suffered and sometimes died for the right to form unions are swallowing the propaganda of corporate spin doctors... people whose parents saw the right-wing witch-hunt in the 1950s are parroting right-wing religious prejudice.
Of course nobody can know everything. But people do, with reason, get tired of the general American attitude that America is the only country that matters. Because right now? America is not MAKING anything. If all the other countries where things are actually manufactured decided to stop trading with us -- we'd be screwed. And we owe China so much $$$ that they could pretty well repossess half the country.
Americans need to wake up and realize that education matters.

Because they're upset that we don't know where their country is on the map so they make up these stupid American jokes but the joke is their government being the bytch of America. Can't breath without authorization. They're not important enough for anyone to want to take the time to know where they are. America is the center of the world, where are they?

Knowing other countries cultures is clearly beyond the ability of most Americans, but knowing where countries are shouldn't be impossible. You're countrymen are fighting in Afghanistan, could you find it on a map?
