Experiencing Lots Of Lag On MineCraft.?

Hey guys, I've recently started playing MineCraft again after a while, and have been getting LOTS of lag, and I'm talking like 5FPS here on minimum settings. When I used to play I know that I didn't lag this badly, infact I'd keep a steady 80+FPS or so (not sure if that's good or not). I recently had my hard-drive wiped, and motherboard replaced (a new laptop almost), due to a corrupt hard drive and some other **** -_-, but I know this hasn't affected anything, as everything is running at normal speed, except MineCraft. But anyway, having had it cleared, and having a lower amount of programs on my laptop, I would've thought that it would infact run faster, but this is not the case. The laptop is around 6 months old, and the specs are (not sure if these are good by the way): 6GB of RAM, Dual Intel i5 processors, Nvidia GeForce 3000 graphics card, and like 600GB hard drive. But anyway I can run Skyrim on like ultra settings if that helps;3? But yeah thanks for reading this massive paragraph, and I'd love to know any tips on speeding it up, or maybe my laptop just isn't good enough, thanks:).

your specs are plenty powerful to handle minecraft, so don't worry about it not being good enough or any of that noise.

try reinstalling java (the core language that minecraft is built on). Usually that will solve alot of performance rated problems.
