Slammed finger in car door. Help?

I slammed my ring finger in the car door yesterday. When I got it out, there was an area where all the layers of skin were scraped off except for one, and I could see the vein. I couldn't move my finger for a while, but we iced it and there's only a dull pain.

I'm concerned, because now my middle and top knuckle are blueish purple. Is that just normal bruising or should I go to a doctor?

Can you move your finger? If you can move it, but there's pain, there's likely no fracture. The bruise is normal for the soft tissue damage you did. You can always go to the doctor and get a x-ray, but sprain or fracture the treatment will me the same (immobilization). Split it for a few days and take tylenol for the pain and see if it gets better. If it's not, go see your doctor.
