Question about bearded dragon walks?
Hey guys,
I will be getting a baby bearded dragon soon and I was thinking, seeing as I am constantly going for walks with my friends, could I walk my beardie with us? I have heard of loads of people who take their beardies for walks, and I was wondering if I could do that, when I have hIm/her tamed, obviously. I was also wondering, if I can walk it, how long should I wait before taking him/her out? Is there a certain age it has to be? Also, where can I get one of those beardie leads and harnesses? I live in Cork, Ireland. Anyone who has been to Ireland will know our constant weather issues :-/ very unpredictable. I was wondering does it have to be a certain temperature outside to walk the beardie? Even if I am only taking it out for a few minutes, just to practice? And, please, I really don't want any of those answers that just tell me that I shouldn't get this pet if I don't know enough about it because trust me, ask anyone I know, I know almost everything about beardies. I have really thoroughly researched them for 3 months, so that I would be able to take proper care of it and so that it would be happy in my care. Please just tell me about the walks. Everything I have asked in this question. That is all I need info about.
Thanks a million guys!!!

Once your lizard is tame enough to be handled for extensive periods, it's almost entirely a matter of temperature. If it's almost the temperature of your beardie's cage outside, then you can pretty much handle your beardie indefinitely (or, at least, until it starts to get stressed). If it's snowing out, you shouldn't bring your beardie outside at all. The warmer it is, the longer you can safely keep your beardie out of its cage. Probably a good rule of thumb would be something like under half an hour if it's under 75F, under an hour if it's 75-85F, and under 2 hours if it's 85-95F. If it's above 95F, then you're in almost-the-cage-temp territory.
Just in case you had a mistaken impression, you don't normally walk a beardie like you'd walk a dog. Your beardie will mostly be riding on your shoulder or whatever. A leash is still a good idea, however, so that if your beardie does go exploring, you can retrieve it easily. You can probably find one on the internet, if there's not a pet shop near you that sells one.
But, I'm not an expert, take what I say with a grain of salt.

- Thanks a million, your answer really helped. Especially the rough estimate of around what temperature it should be and how long in that temperature can I take it out. Thanks for all the help!!!!! And yes, i will check out your open questions now :) :) :) thanks again!!!!!!!!

I would highly suggest not getting a baby... try and get a sub adult or even a full grown adult. Babies are fragile and can at times, be difficult to care for.
You really should wait till your beardie is full grown (about a year old or so) to take it on a walk. I don't think there are even harnesses for smaller bodied reptiles. But you should be able to find them at a local pet store :).
Or you can order one offline.
Just make sure it's not freezing outside. Best time is during the warm summer time temps :) They like to be in hot environments (remember their temps are around 105-110*F for babies and 90-100*F for adults in their tank) It doest have to be that hot outside, but I wouldn't take it outside if it's below... I'd say about 70*F.
