Can I enroll my spouse in DEERs with her passport instead of birth certificate?
I am newly married and I've been searching for the answers on the internet but could not find the answers so any helpful answers would be appreciated. I am well aware of that i'm gonna need to bring her drivers license, social security card, our marriage certificate, and her birth certificate. My wife was born in South Korea and she does not have her birth certificate so my question is would DEERs office accept her valid passport instead of her birth certificate?
She has her social security card here; she became a U.S. citizen when she was young but was born in South Korea. She already asked her parents about her birth certificate but her parents apparently have lost the birth certificate and I know SK does not have birth certificates like the U.S. does. Is there any way to obtain a document with proof of her birth? This website http://www.cdc.gov/od/occp/healthcare/deers_faq.htm says birth certificate OR passport so I wasn't sure if DEERS take either...
Strongly suggest that you contact DEERS...
If she has a Permanent Green Card...her SK Passport is Null & Void...
But she probably just has a Temp Marriage Green Card...
(Good for Two (2) years...)
Marrying a Foreign National is as about as Dumb as you can get !!!!
If the Marriage lasts Two (2) years they issue a Permanent Green Card...
TRUE FACT:
Within Two (2) months of her receiving her Permanent Green Card
she will file for a Divorce...stating Abuse...Happens in 98% of all Cases...
(If the marriage has NOT been Consumated...she will not get one
and will have to return to SK...)
Now here is the Biggy:
Since she is NOT a US Citizen she cannot go on Welfare or Assistance etc...
and since you were he Sponsor to get her here...
YOU WILL Still have to Support Her !!!!
(Room/Board/Medical)
That is the LAW !!!!

If this is her SK PP they will not. If it is her American PP which cannot be obtained without a BC, then they will or at least they should. You may need to get with American Citizen Services in DoS to obtain proof of birth abroad though that is usually for an American born abroad not a foreigner who became an American.
You don't need her Driver's License you need her Birth Certificate (original), the marriage certificate, and Social Security Card or if she does not have one then a Identification Number will be given to her. If you are in the US then her Alien Resident Card/Green Card is necessary as well. Her passport will not work at all. She will have to request one and have a notarized translation.
ETA: You needed to give more details that she was a US Citizen because that is different, you just said she was born in Korea and that is totally different. With her being a US Citizen then you might be able to use the passport but should consider taking her certificate from getting citizenship as well. She should then apply for a copy of her birth certificate for future reference if it is needed. There is it called a family census register or family relation register. She might be able to go through South Korean Consulate
