How many Star Wars episodes are there?

My boyfriend loves Star Wars and he said he that he wanted to watch all the episodes with me... I've seen a few, but I don't really know about Star Wars too much. Does anybody know how many episodes there are?

There are 6 episodes (movies) at first they were released as followed: 456123
Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Episode II: The Clone Wars
Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith
Episode IV: A New Hope
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi

6. Episodes 4,5,6 were made back in the 70s/80s, and then Episodes 1,2,3 were made in the 90s/2000s.

There are 6 total. Now, the original series is 4 5 and 6. 1 2 and 3 are prequels. Confusing, I know
