What should I do if I get kicked out of my house at age 18?
So it's time to face reality... I'm 17 turning 18 in a couple of months I'm technically a junior but dropped out of high school and I'm studying to get my Ged. That's going well and I wanna go to community college and hopefully transfer after 2 years and get a degree.
Recently, though, my mom caught me with weed and long story but she flipped out Asian style >.< and now she wants to kick me out when I turn 18 July... (she's always been yelling and threatening to do this a while though) I haven't smoked in 3 weeks now but my mom doesn't believe me and pretty much hates me and is fed up.
Good news is that I know awesome friends that would let me crash with them and I know their parents too. But I don't want to be a bum and just mooch so It would only be until I saved money or found a job.
BQ:
So basically, I just want to know how cheap a one bedroom apartment would cost. And if anyone else has experience with this sort of thing, what do you think I should do? Also what kind of jobs could I get with a GED? I was also thinking about joining the army for about 2 years now but i heard they only take people with GED and 15 college credits...
Thanks if u answered I appreciate the help. I need it. Sorry if that was super long to read xP
honestly, don't sweat it man. you sound really level headed and cool about the whole situation. your mom will most likely not kick you out once she's convinced you've cleaned up. sucks you can't smoke but oh well, the older generations still think weed is a drug because they were victims of anti-marijuana campaigns. oh well, bfd. anyways, a GED is equivalent to a high school diploma. you can work anywhere a high school grad works. if your mom doesn't let you stay, hopefully you can stay with your friends for a little while until you save up enough money to get on your own two feet. the price of an apartment varies from city to city assuming you're in the usa. check out craigslist postings or just hook up with a real estate agent. good luck to you man. hope your mom stops trippin balls
a tip for you in finding a good job that you'd love. work at a hotel. that's what i do. it's really laid back and the pay is decent enough to move out on your own. i'm in the process of finding my own place as we speak
I think she's being pretty irresponsible. Life isn't as cheap, and work isn't as easy to find these days. You would have to be incredibly motivated to balance study, and a job (most likely labor). You need to talk to her about this, it is such a stupid idea to be moved out with such little preparation.
Hi I read the other answers and to be honest they both sound like they are puffing the magic dragon right now. Why did you drop out of high school in the first place? I'm guessing your mum didn't flip out over just one joint. As a former teenager and now a parent I know it takes a bit before a mum gets fed up. What I think you should do? You can't save money without a job, so get a job, any job, two/three jobs if you have too. You aren't qualified so don't be fussy. Stay away from the drugs. If you can find a way to keep up the study - do it. As you said it's time to face reality. Good luck
