My friend told me that America doesn't have to pay it's debt.?

He says we can keep issuing bonds and we won't have to pay the debt. Is this true and how does it work? Are there flaws with this?

How can I explain to him that it's wrong?

I'm not really good with economics but eventually America won't be able to keep issuing bonds. "We" are supposed to pay the debt but with the poor economy it makes the dollar very worthless.

America does have to pay its debt. It can sell more debt because people have faith in the US that it will pay its debt.
