What is concept and mechanics of stage direction?

This is far too big a subject to cover here. It takes years of studying acting and literature and the art of directing to be able to successfully direct a stage play or a filmed production.
The basic idea is to take charge of the entire production, getting the best out of the actors, making sure the set, props and effects are appropriate, while putting the director's own particular slant on every part of it.
