Because right-wing politics is based on rich people wanting to take even more money from poor people, and they will never be able to sell it to the poor people if they describe it in those terms.
Either that or they just have no understanding of economics, which given that the financial institutions which caused the crisis are all staunch Republican supporters, seems like a good shout. The reason the US (and the rest of the west) is facing a public spending deficit is not because state spending has "gone out of control". It's because tax revenues collapsed due to the credit crunch. All this talk of needing to reduce spending to fix the deficit is a smokescreen to allow Republicans to do what they always want to do the most: cut taxes, cut public services, rob the poor to pile more money in the hands of the rich. Instead there should be more focus on restoring tax revenues.

The only jobs that will be lost are government jobs, and those are not "real" jobs anyway, as they consume more than they produce, which defeats the purpose of "creating" jobs.
