The Israelites who were exiled in Babylon after the destruction of Jerusalem and its desolation of 70 years. These Jews were told by Cyrus, the king of Persia who had defeated the Babylonians, they were to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their temple. He even ordered that they be given gold, animals and provisions to make the journey.

Daniel was one of the exiles but he didn't return to Jerusalem, probably because of his age. That book is another interesting one in the Bible to read.
