Ferngully critter question?

I was watching Ferngully and saw little white furry critters with a red tipped tail. Does anyone know what this animal is? I tried searching for it but it yielded nothing.

Not sure; i watched the same movie recently and just realized that the black things in the mud singing were leeches =S
