My dog follows me everywhere. He freaks out if I leave his sight. Right now, he is crammed under the computer desk just so he can lay with me.
If I were in danger, I know he would protect me with his life. He has already tried to protect me from a dog attack (even though it was just an over-excited border collie jumping on me, but he didn't know).
Cats and rats a rabbits really can't be "loyal".
The definition of loyal"1: unswerving in allegiance: as a: faithful in allegiance to one's lawful sovereign or government b: faithful to a private person to whom fidelity is due c: faithful to a cause, ideal, custom, institution, or product
Cats and rats and rabbits can love you. They can be described as loving. Good pets. Friends. Companions. But the world loyal just doesn't fit them.
"Unswerving in allegiance". If a big man was attacking me, my cat would probably run away. the rat and the rabbit would just sit there, obliviouse. Neither of these actions are "1: unswerving in allegiance: as a: faithful in allegiance to one's lawful sovereign or government b: faithful to a private person to whom fidelity is due c: faithful to a cause, ideal, custom, institution, or product ". Yet my dog would fight to protect me, probably to his death.
Dogs are loyal because MOST dogs will be there for you, no matter what. Most, but not all. Cats and rabbits and other pets, on the other hand, just wont be there as much as dogs. Thats why I say they are loving companion animals, just not LOYAL companion animals like dogs
