C-Section or Vaginal Birth? I am scared of Both lol. please any advice will be helpful!?
I have gestational diabetes and I am 38 weeks and 2 days and the doctor wants to induce me on friday. The ultrasound says she is already nine pounds. I had problems pushing my son out and he was only 7 lbs 9 oz. they had to turn off my epidural and I was pushing for 2 hrs and 45 min. and the doctor ended up using the vacuum. My dr. told me this baby could have shoulder distocia (spelling wrong sorry) so he wants me to consider c section I am afraid of that because my husband works 9 hours a day and then after that he is in trade school for 3 hours after that so I would be recovering by myself. another question do you know if you can stay in the hospital a few extra days after the c section to recover longer? any advice would be helpful. thank you so much!

I believe the insurance I have will allow additional days after a c-section, but they have to be approved.
If you could find a way to get help if you choose a c-section, I would. Ultrasounds can be off by a couple lbs, so you could be lucky and the baby could actually really be 7lbs, but you never know.
Since you said you had difficulty pushing your first baby out and he was only 7lbs, I would personally probably opt for the c-section so I don't run the risk of pushing for hours only to end up having to have an emergency c-section later anyway.
Good luck, and congratulations on your impending delivery!

- thanks for the good advice. that is what i was thinking if i am going to end up with the c section anyways then i might as well not suffer through the labor and difficultly of pushing. thanks again!

Your insurance company is required to allow at least a 48 hour hospital stay following a c-section. Would you situation allow for your husband to take paternity leave through FMLA? Maybe he could take off work for a couple of weeks at least, while continuing with school in the evening.

i would definatly suggest a c-section, they usually let you stay 4-5 days in the hospital after one, i had one and recovered very quickly.

After vaginal birth you generally stay in the hospital 2 days, after a c-section 3 days. It's pretty much dictated by your insurance company.
I'm not sure what to tell you. I would definitely be scared of a c-section. . . takes longer to recover, leave more of a mark on your body. . . I'm not sure how I would feel if in your place. Good Luck though, and I hope it all works out for the best!
oh and from experience large babies hurt to push out. My son was 8lbs 15oz and ouch. . not fun!

I had GD and my doc said he didn't like to induce women with it since there is usually a reason they are "taking the baby."
I went into labor on my own 4 1/2 weeks early and ended up with a C-Section after 3 hours of pushing because of how far up the baby was and he was stuck. Again, doc said he wouldn't use forceps or vaccuum for fear of the baby being too big. (He was also sunny side up)
Ultrasounds are not accurate on weight that late in pregnancy, it's only an educated guess. The baby could be bigger or smaller. Just know that no matter what happens, the doc is going to do what's best for you and your baby.
After enduring labor and attempting delivery and ending up with a c-section, you couldn't pay me enough money to attempt the VBAC. I didn't think the recovery was THAT bad and I stayed 3 nights in the hospital.
Good Luck.

It seems like it may be highly possible that you are going to have a c-section however, you could also deliver your baby naturally! Many women push out 9lb+ babies. Just do your job and let the doctors do theirs. They'll decide which is best for you and your baby. If it comes to the point where you have done all you can to have this baby naturally, then you have no choice but to have a cesarean.
Do you have a family that could stay with you for a week or two to help you out with the baby if your husband can't be there (in the case of a c-section). Many family members I'm sure would love to stay with you or take shifts. Rely on your family....they will enjoy helping you. Congrats!

I stayed 3 days after a c-section. It was pretty ruff getting up and down. I think that the best thing though if you do have a c-section is to get going as quickly as possible. You don't need to overdue but the quicker you get going the quicker it is to recover. All in all I was pretty much back to normal within a week of coming home. I had complications also so it made it a little longer to get better but You will have pain medicine and you should rest as much as possible and maybe you could have someone come over that could help out like a friend if hubby has to work.

i have had both and found you recover quicker from a natural birth the pain is there at the time and as soon as the baby is born pretty much your up and about with a c section the pain is afterwards for weeks you dont even want to think about sneezing or coughing but everyone is different my sister recovered much faster than me. you have to think what is best for your baby if the doc has recommended c section it is probably for the health and safety of the baby and a liitle discomfort on your part will be worth it for a safe delivery hope all goes well

Hi, I went through a similar second pregnancy with diabetes. I was in labour for 30 hours with the first and they used the suction cap in the end. The second delivery was only 3 & a half intense hours with no time for drug relief - (they broke my water) but mentally I coped better. I preferred not to have a c-section. My baby was 8 1/2 pounds. Just go with it. Some women I know who have had c-sections have had little pain, some have. Good luck anyway with your baby.

i would say that vaginal birth would be better, because the recovery is much faster, specially when your not gonna have someone with you most of the day. I had my baby a month ago and the day after birth i was like nothing had happened(except for all the bleeding of course). But if your doctor recommended a c-section then i would follow his advice. i do think, also, that with a c-section they let you stay from 3-5 days. Good luck...

I had a c section on a wed and got discharged on Fri.
My husband had to take the follow week out to help me, I couldn't get of bed or off the couch by myself, with or without holding our baby. Best advice try and get someone to help you at home at least for that first week home. They give you a thing to inhale with 3 balls use it alot { sorry don't remember the name for it} when you get home your going to be coughing up mucus and it hurts very much to cough
I suggest taking a pillow put it at your tummy and bending over and do small, like fake coughs
Hope this is some help to you Good luck!

I was in labor for 10 hours then had a c section. I was in the hospital for 3 days (they asked me if i wanted to stay 4) . I went home and took care of the other kids who are 4 and 6 and then three weeks after my c section I started my home daycare back up. I'd say by 2 weeks you will feel like getting up and about.

big babies can be better pushed out squatting or on all fours
