The answer, "it will definitely reduce the effectiveness," is wrong according to doctors and pharmacists. Why sound so authoritative without expertise and why so many support that answer? I guess it's easier to support the answer you already know than to search for the right one.

It's never a good idea to stop taking an antibiotic for your infection will not heal if you skip doses. This course of action could cause you to receive another round of a stronger antibiotic, which could set you back another three weeks.

I would call the pharmacy, and ask them about taking your medicine and how much you should drink. Stay within the limit they give you, or maybe you should just sit this one out. Generally drinking while taking amoxicillin makes you fall asleep rather quickly, starting during your first drink. Anyway, It's worth it to take all of the medicine first, when you're supposed to, then be fighting this for another month, where your drink intake might have to be zero due to the stronger meds.

Glad to see that you know it is a bad idea...it is. Personally I would think you would place your health above your party....yet was young once and do understand. Continue taking the medication as directed. Do not miss a dose no matter what. For me amoxicillin gives me the diah***, Mixing it with alcohol will intensify that effect. You might want to apply a "DEPEND" to your bottom side before going out. Once the party is over...drink as much water as you can...this will help get the booze out of your system. Continue drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluids. Get Well soon...

Antibiotics (with the exception of one, and I don't know what its called) are NOT effected by Alcohol. Penicillin / Amoxcillin would not be effected.

Drinking (a lot) would be the problem, not drinking and taking antibiotics.

amoxiil has a half of about one hour and biovailability of up to 12 hrs. Aside from fulminant hepatitis (which can kill you, but is rare) the effect you'll have is the disulfiram effect, which is nausea, vomits and all in between. Like a hangover while you drink. Have fun!!

Presumably you are taking the antibiotics because you are sick and have an infection of some sort. If you want to get better, you should take the antibiotics as they were prescribed for the entire time it was prescribed for. Not taking them just so you can get rip snorting drunk is not really an intelligent choice, which you already know. Antibiotics build up in the body to a theraputic level, which is how they are able to work. If you quit taking them, that level drops. Meantime whatever buggie is making you ill gets a chance to reproduce unchecked, and the new babies have a better resistance to the drug. You end up sicker longer, taking another type of antibiotic, likely one that's more expensive to boot. You'd be wiser to continue taking your medicine and be the designated driver for your drinking buddies. Even if you don't take the medicines and go ahead and drink, the alcohol that remains in your system will prevent the antibiotics from working as effectively for the next day or so when you finally decide to start taking them again. If you are determined to play with your health and well being, then go ahead. It doesn't really matter when you quit taking them, nor when you start again. They won't do anything to the alcohol, but the alcohol is going to prevent it from working anyway.
